With a deft touch on the piano, and a smooth, intimate vocal style, Gabriole has been playing signature versions of her favorite tunes in the Vancouver scene for some years now. Her music is coloured with a jazz sensibility and vocabulary, but the approach is unique and her interpretations often include a nod to other genres, a hint of blues or country. Her style is warm and engaging and she excels as a musical storyteller, each tune comes from a very personal place.
She has recently recorded her first album, Too Damn Bad, under the guidance of producer Babe Gurr, which was released in 2014. This disk contains original tunes, as well as some wonderful standards and Gabriole gets to show her skills as arranger as well as performer.
Originally born in Montreal, Gabriole’s professional life has developed in Vancouver, her introduction to jazz starting with the purchase of a little jazz club in Vancouver called “the Flat Five”. Since that time, her romance with music drew her to an ongoing affair with jazz and performance, with time out to raise a family.
She has performed in Vancouver’s City Fest, the Vancouver Jazz Festival, The Golden Spike Festival, Musique Chez Nous, Summer of Love Festival, the Butchart Gardens series, local concert series, and of course, often provides that classy jazz “thing” at local venues. She also enjoys the pianist/vocalist chair with the Inlet Big Band, an active 17-piece jazz band based in the Tri-Cities area.
With her band of stellar musicians, Gabriole always delivers an entertaining and unique show. That said, she also takes pleasure in creating fabulous musical atmosphere, “smooth, savvy and sophisticated”, rocking the room gently in the arms of swing. This lady is a class act.
